Mecosta is located in the northeast corner of Morton Township along M-20. It is strategically located between many of Mecosta County’s major chains of lakes, and subsequently a crossroads area for summer tourists. This town’s name is the same as the County’s and originated from a Potawatomi Indian chief, which means: "Bear Cub."
