Minutes of Regular Meeting on Jan 3, 2022 in office
Present: Ann Wrobbel, Colleen Beemer, Alice Ray, Katherine Snider, Pat Sundquist, Kim Wernette, Joy Moorman, Melissa Moorman, Kevin Stevens, Guests: Gerry Wallace, Steve Norton, Kat Kerr from Barryton council.
Meeting called to order by President Ann Wrobbel at 6:00 pm. The Pledge of Allegiance recited. Minutes of Regular Meeting of 12.7.21 read. Edit: per Ann, Supervisors are allowed to fill out employees’ time sheet with employee’s consent. 2nd edit: Attorney provides description and detail of charges on his bill therefore, there is no signed transcript. Kim responded that there needs to be one other person on the call between president and attorney. Ann suggested we revisit this issue. Motion by Kim to approve minutes from Dec 7th , 2021 meeting; Seconded by Pat. Motion carried.
Public Comments: Marco & family spoke of wanting to buy the property behind Coffee and Cream. Pat suggested that this issue would first need to be directed to the township as they provide our zoning needs. Second issue: Regarding an unopened road in the Village, Kim is researching this issue; the Village does have the power to close the vacant street. Kim made a motion to allow Marco to temporarily use the vacant lot behind his business as this issue is being researched. Katherine seconded. Motion carried.
President’s Report: There are many dead trees in the Village on Village property that will need to be addressed early spring. Also noted: Ann will be heading up the 4th of July parade. Council will be in charge of fireworks donations.
Treasurer’s report: Printouts of all 6 accounts were dispersed to council detailing debits/credits and current balances. We had received the ARPA (Covid) money and it has been deposited into its own new, dedicated account. Melissa provided website research & ideas. Motion by Alice to accept the report. Seconded by Colleen. Motion carried.
Clerk’s Report: All information needed by the accountant will be uploaded this month so that they can generate our W-2s and 1099s.
Current bills reviewed. Motion by Kim to approve bills. Seconded by Katherine.. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.
Cemetery: door needed on small white building early spring. DAR is selling wreaths to be used only in military cemeteries. Holly Custer in Grand Rapids is contact for information. We need to maintain the driveway/road and think about naming the sections.
Pine Tree Park: Horseshoe tourney: 5/21/22. date locked in for use.
Pocket Park: nothing new
Bromley Park: nothing new
Ordinances: no new complaints
Community Activities: Christmas Tree Lighting was a great success; due to the extremely cold weather, we did not have a large number of guests but that didn’t deter anyone from having fun and singing along to favorite holiday songs. Turkeys and complete dinners were handed out and every one was very grateful. Thanks Pat.
Research & Information: Re: website Kim worked with Kat from Barryton and presented a ‘mock’ website for the Village. Alice made the motion to move forward with this website with an approximate cost of $66/yr and that Joy & Kim will be administrators. Colleen seconded. Motion carried unanimously.. Also, Alice made a motion that we pay Kat Kerr $100 for her help with website design. Kim seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
Street Commissioner: Kevin presented bids and information for the purchase of a second, smaller tractor. Kim made the motion to purchase a new Kubota with cab and attachments for snow & mowing at the cost of $26,700. Colleen seconded. Motion carried unanimously. We will not be trading in our old tractor with a trade in value of $1000; we will sell it on our own.
New Business: Holiday lights will be taken down soon. RE: banners at Pine Tree, cost is $20/yr. Village should have one noting purchase details and contact information. Steve presented a rough draft banner purchase agreement.
After decades of service to the Village, Pat Sundquist submitted her resignation. Ann accepted it. Both Ann & Pat signed. On behalf of the Village residents, council members and all employees, we can’t thank Pat enough for all that she has done over the years. Her guidance and advice will be greatly missed.
