Regular Meeting Minutes
President Ann Wrobbel, called the Village Council to order at 6:00pm
Pledge to the flag was recited
Roll call: Ann Wrobbel-present, Kim Wernette-present, Melissa Lazzaro-present, Colleen Beemer-present, Alice Ray-present (on speaker phone), Kevin Stevens-present
Alice Ray is present on speaker phone from her home in Mecosta, MI
Minutes of Regular Meeting March 2, 2026, were presented
Kim Wernette made a motion seconded Ann Wrobbel to accept minutes, roll call-all ayes, motion passes
Public Comment: Mr. Zimmerman updated county happenings, The County received $540,000 from the Marijuana Excise Tax, this year there will be no application process, the County has other priorities, the main one being Paris Ponds, $153,000 will be sent to get the project going, the use of the rest of the funds is yet to be determined
Ann Wrobbel read the Presidents Report: Banners-has secured a few new contracts, but also lost a few, asking council to help secure contracts, Ann hired a new employee, Mike turned in a new bid for mowing the cemetery for $275 per cut, an increase of $25 due to the cost of gas, As of now there has been no interest in the area to put in any Data Centers, Council can’t prohibit what is being built, but can set limitations on what the property can be used for
Kim Wernette made a motion seconded by Ann Wrobbel to accept the bid of $275 per cut for mowing the cemetery for 2026.
Kim Wernette made a motion seconded by Ann Wrobbel to pay all bills, payroll, and expenses, roll call-all yeses, motion passes
Melissa Lazzaro read the Clerks Report: Budget is looking good, still have to do due to’s and equipment rental.
Kim Wernette read the Treasurer’s report: Bank balances as of 4/2/2026: General Fund: $29,739.09, Asset Fund: $19,290.77Banner Fund: $4,203.71, Community Promotion Fund: $8,385.18, ARPA Fund $729.23 Fireworks Fund: $1,586.31, Local Road Fund: $83,637.20 Major Road Fund: $130,422.41
Ice Mountain is sending a check for $600.00, $100 for Banners and $500 for fireworks
Ann Wrobbel made a motion seconded by Colleen Beemer to accept the Treasurers Report, roll call-all yeses, motion passes
Ann Wrobbel read the Enforcement Report: John will be in on April 9th to drive around the Village, there are 9 or 10 properties to look at
Kim Wernette read the Cemetery Report: Cook’s will pick up brush once it’s in a pile, April 25th Student Council and Honor Society from the High School and Middle School will be volunteering from 10-? Billy Fate will try to get in and get the big branch out of the tree before the 25th, anyone that would like to volunteer cleaning up the cemetery is welcome, pizza and water will be provided
Ann Wrobbel made a motion seconded by Colleen Beemer to spend up to $250 out of Community Promotion Fund to pay for pizza for the Cemetery clean up day, roll call-Ann Wrobbel-yes, Kim Wernette-yes, Colleen Beemer-yes, Alice Ray-no, motion passes
Colleen Beemer read Pine Tree Park Report: Would like to get a net to go around the baseball diamond
Bromley Park Report: Nothing at this time
Alice Ray read Research & Information: Alice is still looking for grants to put up lights at the ballfield
Alice Ray read Pocket Park: Still waiting on cement for the flagpole, will have to wait for Spring now.
Community Activity Report: Kim would like to donate to the posse for all they do for the Village, Easter Egg Hunt was a big success did the eggs outside and the baskets inside
Ann Wrobbel made a motion seconded by Colleen Beemer to donate $150 to the Mecosta County Posse, roll call-all yeses, motion passes
Street Commissioner Report: The generator is almost hooked up need a part to update the fuse box, it will be 5-7 days to get the part
Kim Wernette made a motion seconded by Ann Wrobbel to spend up to $500 to get the generator up and running, roll call-all yeses, motion passes
Kim Wernette made a motion seconded by Colleen Beemer to hire Michael Richards for a 90-day probation period-to be reviewed by Council at July Meeting, at $15/hr. summer hours-April-October up to 25 hours a week, if there is stuff to do, or storm clean up, Winter hours-November-March, on call only-for storm clean up, roll call-all yeses, motion passes
Kim Wernette made a motion seconded by Colleen Beemer to pay Mike for the hours worked previous to hiring date, roll call-all yeses, motion passes
There is a bee keeping club at the VFW, the hives are at the back of the property, need a special use permit, they will have no more than 3 hives
Kim Wernette made a motion seconded by Ann Wernette to approve a special use permit for the VFW for bee keeping and to waive the fee due to them being a non-profit, roll call-all yeses, motion passes
Kim Wernette made a motion seconded by Colleen Beemer to have Kevin Stevens grade the roads in the spring, mid-summer, and possibly fall, at $800 per grade, roll call-all yeses, motion passes
