Meeting to discuss several issues the maintenance employee has been asked to do and or not do, and continued, such as, using the tractor too much, questioned his hours for salting, moving snow when asked to stop, using too much salt, plowing snow at John St when asked to stop, wear and tear on equipment, working on equipment without permission, had to have several repairs on equipment and it’s getting too expensive. The new snowblower is broke, now there’s no way to clear the sidewalks, On January 20th Ann Wrobbel and Kevin Stevens met with said employee to inform him he would be suspended without pay until Council could meet to discuss issues. He was told he was welcome to attend the meeting, and he did with his wife.
Ann Wrobbel made a motion seconded by Alice Ray to dismiss Chuck Wiersma immediately, roll-call-all yeses, motion passes
Chuck stated this all started with the bad snowstorm, Bob was falling behind and he asked Kevin if he should help him, and then he got yelled at. He says did stop plowing when asked and donated his time and a flag in the cemetery, he was pushing the snow back at John St so the ground would freeze, he just wanted people to be proud of the Village, and it wasn’t done intentionally.
Bob has volunteered to clear the sidewalks for the rest of the winter, we will look for a new maintenance person in the spring
Kim Wernette made a motion seconded by Colleen Beemer to allow Bob Altman to fill in through winter doing sidewalks and possibly piles at the end of the road, roll call-all yeses, motion passes
The school has loaned us their snowblower until we get ours back, we will only be doing sidewalks downtown and in front of the school
Ann Wrobbel made a motion seconded by Colleen Beemer to adjourn, roll call-all yeses, motion passes
