Regular Meeting Minutes
President Ann Wrobbel, called the Village Council to order at 6:00pm
Pledge to the flag was recited
Roll call: Ann Wrobbel-present, Kim Wernette-present, Melissa Lazzaro-present, Colleen Beemer-present, Alice Ray-present (on speaker phone), Kevin Stevens-absent
Alice Ray is present on speaker phone from her home in Mecosta, MI
Minutes of Regular Meeting June 1, 2026, were presented
Kim Wernette made a motion seconded Colleen Beemer to accept minutes, roll call-all ayes, motion passes
Public Comment: Mr. Zimmerman updated on County happenings, they gave $250,000 of the $540, 000 MET Money to Paris Parks to save the ponds, they are getting a new x-ray machine at the courthouse, the report from the expert witness on the Tonkin Drain is ready there are a few Commissioners reluctant to release it because it might hurt Karla Miller, will send Kim information on new grant
Deb Steig and Terry Caswell submitted letters of intent for the open trustee seat, after some deliberation on which person to nominate, Alice Ray resigned from her trustee seat, Alice would like to thank Kevin for getting the flagpole up in Pocket Park.
Ann Wrobbel made a motion seconded by Kim Wernette to accept Alice’s resignation, roll call-all yeses, motion passes
Alice was thanked for her many years of service to the Village
Kim Wernette made a motion seconded by Ann Wrobbel to appoint Deb Steig to the empty trustee seat and Terry Caswell to Alice Ray’s seat, roll call-all yeses, motion passes
Ann Wrobbel read the Presidents Report: Ann thanked everyone that helped with the 4th of July parade, she also told Kim that she has no authority to turn down firework donations
Kim Wernette made a motion seconded by Ann Wrobbel to pay all bills, payroll, and expenses, roll call-all yeses, Alice Ray-absent, motion passes
Melissa Lazzaro read the Clerks Report: Melissa needs to make some budget amendments, will work on them and bring them back to council next month for approval
Kim Wernette read the Treasurer’s report: Bank balances as of 6/29/2026: General Fund: $27,910.05, Asset Fund: $17,412.98 Banner Fund: $5,674.85 Community Promotion Fund: $7,333.94, Fireworks Fund: $9,855.05, Local Road Fund: $85,080.21 Major Road Fund: $137,006.03
Ann reminded Kim she needs to have the treasurer report numbers up to date at the meetings
Ann Wrobbel made a motion seconded by Colleen Beemer to accept the Treasurers Report, roll call-all yeses, motion passes
Ann Wrobbel read the Enforcement Report: John drove around the village on June 11, he checked on the properties that letters were sent to. Satisfactory progress is being made in clean up efforts on the two properties. Waiting on delivery confirmation on one letter from last month. He sent letters to 1065 W Maple about ducks and chickens, and 698 Main St. about junk and tires in the yard.
Kim Wernette read the Cemetery Report: Received lots of compliments, Mike is doing a good job mowing, Alan will drive through occasionally to keep the water full.
Colleen Beemer read Pine Tree Park Report: People were up there on the 4th of July grilling and watching fireworks. The next horseshoe tournament is June 11, 2026.
Bromley Park Report: Music on the River-Elvis was there on July 3rd, about 75 people attended
Research & Information: Nothing at this time
Pocket Park: Flagpole is done
Community Activity Report: Nothing at this time
The maintenance man-Mike Richardson is due for a 90 day review, no issues discussed
Street Commissioner Report: Mike moved the gravel out of the VFW, it opened up more parking, it’s all at John St., they want to make a path for Veteran’s to walk on.
Public Comment: Brandon Creed thanked the Village for the support over the 4th of July weekend, Jackie and Brad asked if they could remove bushes and overgrown weeds from the easement, grate it and landscape it, plant fruit trees and bushes, Council has no issues with this. Jerry Wallace said the parade lasted 30 minutes and was great, and the car show was fantastic. Vicki agreed the weekend went very well. Deb Steig informed everyone that John Moolenaar will be at the VFW Presenting a veteran with a medal he never received, on July 29, 2026 at 10:00, Sara from the Chamber of Commerce will be at the VFW on July 16th at 1:00 , she wants to help revitalize small communities, Suzanne Creed has opened StarsN’Stripes Print House in the old Lundie’s Barbershop.
