Regular Meeting Minutes

President Ann Wrobbel, called the Village Council to order at 6:00pm

Pledge to the flag was recited

Roll call: Ann Wrobbel-present, Kim Wernette-present, Melissa Lazzaro-present, Colleen Beemer-present, Alice Ray-present (on speaker phone), Kevin Stevens-present

Alice Ray is present on speaker phone from her home in Mecosta, MI

Minutes of Regular Meeting May 4, 2026, were presented

Kim Wernette made a motion seconded Colleen Beemer to accept minutes, roll call-all ayes, motion passes

Public Comment: Mr. Zimmerman updated county happenings, some board members toured the Big Rapids Department of Public Safety and the Ferris State Department of Public Safety to see the working conditions of the agencies, specifically, the squad and training/community/Emergency Operations Center, at each of those buildings. They need to be updated; the Commissioners are working on ways to facilitate that project. There are several ongoing blight cases in Colfax Township, Mr. Zimmerman sent a letter to Speaker of the House Matt Hall and to the Bar association about the Tonkin Drain case

Ann Wrobbel read the Presidents Report: Nothing at this time

Kim Wernette made a motion seconded by Ann Wrobbel to pay all bills, payroll, and expenses, roll call-all yeses, Alice Ray-absent, motion passes

Melissa Lazzaro read the Clerks Report: Melissa present council with the biannual audit findings, everything went very well, there were several improvements from the last few years.

Kim Wernette read the Treasurer’s report: Bank balances as of 5/31/2026: General Fund: $20,242.38, Asset Fund: $20,016.99 Banner Fund: $5,594.41 Community Promotion Fund: $7,830.33, Fireworks Fund: $2,322.38, Local Road Fund: $81,917.49 Major Road Fund: $131,465.82

Ann Wrobbel made a motion seconded by Colleen Beemer to accept the Treasurers Report, roll call-all yeses, Alice Ray-absent, motion passes

John Fribley read the Enforcement Report: John sent out 3 letters when he was here in April, when he came back in May the ones that didn’t comply were sent citations, and 3 more warning letters were sent.

Kim Wernette read the Cemetery Report: The cemetery is looking good, Cooks’s did an amazing job, a resident is going to be purchasing 4 plots.

Colleen Beemer read Pine Tree Park Report: Colleen, Kim and a few other volunteers were able to get the horseshoe pits done, thank you to everyone that helped, the tether ball is missing again, not going to replace it this time.

Bromley Park Report: The well pump is in, need to do water samples to get it open

Alice Ray read Research & Information: Nothing at this time

Alice Ray read Pocket Park: Still need concrete in park for the flagpole

Community Activity Report: 4th of July fireworks fundraising is going well, a big thank you to the VFW and Auxiliary for their generous donations. Kim got all the flowers planted.

Street Commissioner Report: Well pump in the fire barn needs to be fixed, Trayer’s quoted approximately $2,500 to fix it. We have to take all the brackets off the poles, as they are replacing most of the poles on Main Street.  The VFW has donated gravel to the Village, Mike will put it in a big pile and take it as needed. 

Kim Wernette made a motion seconded by Ann Wrobbel to spend up to $3,000 from Asset Fund to get the well pump in the fire barn fixed, roll call-all yeses, motion passes

Public Comment: Deb Steig-they will have children’s games at the VFW on the 4th of July, would like to see all the groups, and residents work together to improve the Village. 

Kim Wernette made a motion seconded by Ann Wrobbel to adjourn, roll call-all ayes, motion passes
