Regular Meeting Minutes

President Ann Wrobbel, called the Village Council to order at 6:00pm

Pledge to the flag was recited

Roll call: Ann Wrobbel-present, Kim Wernette-present, Melissa Lazzaro-present, Colleen Beemer-present, Alice Ray-present (on speaker phone), Kevin Stevens-present

Alice Ray is present on speaker phone from her home in Mecosta, MI

Minutes of Regular Meeting February 2, 2026, were presented

Kim Wernette made a motion seconded Colleen Beemer to accept minutes, roll call-all ayes, motion passes

Public Comment: Mr. Zimmerman updated county happenings, new car wash, 5 Below and Burlington coming to Big Rapids, new Mexican restaurant in Barryton, and MMPA will be making cottage cheese and open soon. The County hired an expert to look into the Tonka Drain, someone filed a complaint in Lansing that the engineer overcharged for their services

Ann Wrobbel read the Presidents Report: Ann is looking into designs for t-shirts to possibly sell on the 4th of July, John will be back on April 9th, there are 7-8 properties that have been brought to her attention for him to look at. Grand Marshall for this year’s 4th of July parade will be Deb Steig and Amber. There will be 2 trustee seats and the President seat available in the November election, if interested in getting on the ballot please see the Morton Township Clerk. Working on getting the banners for this year, we have lost a few and gained a few, offering a special, if you sign up for a 3-year contract you save $10.00

Kim Wernette made a motion seconded by Colleen Beemer to pay all bills, payroll, and expenses, roll call-all yeses, motion passes

Melissa Lazzaro read the Clerks Report: present council with current budget, will have final budget for fiscal year next month

Kim Wernette read the Treasurer’s report: Bank balances as of 2/27/2026: General Fund: $27,516.23, Asset Fund: $19,289.90 Banner Fund: $3,753.42, Community Promotion Fund: $8,980.47, ARPA Fund $729.17 Fireworks Fund: $1,586.19, Local Road Fund: $81,467.58 Major Road Fund: $122,118.73

Ann Wrobbel made a motion seconded by Colleen Beemer to accept the Treasurers Report, roll call-all yeses, motion passes

Ann Wrobbel read the Enforcement Report: Discussed during the President Report

Kim Wernette read the Cemetery Report: The ice storm was hard on the cemetery, we are going to contact our insurance company to see if some of the damage is covered, if not covered we already have some people willing to volunteer to help clean up.

Colleen Beemer read Pine Tree Park Report: There is a State Tournament on June 20th, the pits need new sand, we will pull the broken fence out in the spring

Bromley Park Report: Music on the River is scheduled, Kim will contact Courtright’s to get well installation scheduled, 4th of July weekend-Elvis on the 3rd, parade, car show, fireworks, and possibly kids games in Bromley Park on the 4th.

Alice Ray read Research & Information: Alice is still looking for grants to put up lights at the ballfield

Alice Ray read Pocket Park: Still waiting on cement for the flagpole, will have to wait for Spring now.

Community Activity Report: Easter Activity will be March 28, 2026, at 2:00, the VFW is going to let us have it there again. We have received several donations. We are using the same fireworks company as last year, this year we will be plating flowers in the big pots only, council members will volunteer to plant. The giving tree was a big hit, we received lots of donations, it will be taken down next weekend. 

Street Commissioner Report: They will be taking down the Christmas decorations this week, spoke with the electrician, the wire that is broke is ours, would like to contact Ice Mountain about putting a pump into the cemetery. All equipment is ready for spring
